Creativity Overview
Creativity at the Vale of Evesham School is delivered at every stage of the curriculum.
Semi-Formal learners in FS1 and FS2 access 2 hours of Creativity a week which includes Art (all term) and half a term block of Design Technology or Food Technology. Creativity is also threaded throughout the FS1 and FS2 curriculums to enhance the learning of other subjects such as RE, Geography, and History. Students have Topic based sessions that include a variety of creative activities in relation to the topic.
In FS3 and HS1 learners begin to study Creativity as part of the semi-formal or formal curriculum. Semi-formal learners participate in one hour of Expressive Arts a week. In Expressive arts students rotate through a range of activities that include film and media, textiles, art and 3D sculpture. As well as this they have access to one hour of Creative Arts where they explore their individual skills and gain confidence through music, drama and dance activities. They also use creativity to enhance the learning of subjects in topics. Formal learners also participate in one hour of creativity in the form of Expressive Arts. This also involves rotating through a range of creative activities. In addition, they access an hour of art every week and a half term block of DT/ Food technology 1 hour per week .
In HS2 semi-formal and formal learners both have the option to study arts as part of the arts award. The focus of the Arts Award is developing understanding of a range of arts activities and arts organisations. Semi Formal learners begin at the Discover level of Arts Award. They develop skills of exploring arts activities, researching arts organisations, and sharing their views. Formal learners begin to work at the Explore level of Arts Award. Students create a portfolio of work that can be entered for the Arts Award Qualification. The Explore qualification of Arts Award is equivalent to an Entry Level 3 Qualification. Students continue to develop their participation in a range of art forms and develop their knowledge of arts organisations. Formal learners also identify what has inspired them, and the skills they have developed as part of their Arts Award studies.
Semi-Formal students continue to access weekly expressive arts sessions to explore a range of creative mediums. Formal students have the option to participate in weekly Expressive Arts and DT sessions based on their personal preferences.
In all stages of the curriculum at the Vale of Evesham School students have the opportunity to contribute to performances for celebrations, such as the Harvest festival, Christmas, a spring celebration and a celebration in the summer term. These performances are designed to be tailored to the interests of the students to ensure maximum engagement. They can involve dancing, singing, signing, acting, or reciting poetry which is rehearsed in their Creative Arts lessons.
